The Boston Bruins have acquired forward JJ Peterka from the Utah Mammoth in a trade that sent two first-round picks to Utah.
The trade, which was announced on Friday, includes the No. 23 pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and a conditional first-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft.
Boston had previously acquired the 2028 first-round pick from the Florida Panthers in a deal for forward Brad Marchand on March 7, 2025.
The addition of Peterka is expected to bolster the Bruins' offense, particularly on the power play, where he has shown his ability to score.
Peterka had 47 points, including 25 goals and 22 assists, in 82 games with the Mammoth last season.
The 24-year-old forward has four seasons remaining on a five-year, $38.5 million contract, which he signed on the day he was acquired by Utah.
As of the end of the last season, the Boston Bruins stood 5th in the Eastern Conference with a 45-27 record, on a W2 streak, following a 1-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on May 1, 2026.
Bruins general manager Don Sweeney praised Peterka's speed and skill, noting that he will give the team another look on the elbow in power-play situations.
Peterka expressed his excitement about joining the Bruins, stating that he thinks it will be an awesome fit and that he has more to give than what he showed last season.
The Utah Mammoth, on the other hand, used the No. 23 pick to acquire goaltender Sebastian Cossa from the Detroit Red Wings later on Friday.
Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong said that the trade allows them to create room for younger players and gives them flexibility to make bigger deals in the future.
Armstrong also mentioned that the conditional first-round pick in 2028 will give them the ability to make some bigger deals down the stretch.
The Bruins are looking to improve their performance after a successful last season, and the acquisition of Peterka is seen as a step in that direction.
With Peterka on board, the Bruins will look to build on their current standing and make a deeper run in the playoffs.
The team's fans will be eager to see how Peterka fits into the lineup and contributes to the team's success.
